Glencorse Trout Fishery Outing 15th July 2026

19 members and their guests gathered at the beautiful setting of Glencorse Trout Fishery in the Pentland Hills south of Edinburgh.  Expectations were not high given the long, at times hot, sunny spell of weather in the preceding weeks and the implication that this may have on the fishing conditions.

There was a light easterly breeze and, after the sun had burned off the early morning cloud, a continuation of the recent sunny weather. The fishing turned out to be extremely difficult throughout the day.  None of our members or guests netted a rainbow despite trying all methods, using a various of flies and lines, as well as covering almost every square inch of the reservoir.  The fish were just not having it!

A few anglers reported an inspection or a take, but that was as close as it got.  Special mention to Davie Birse who did at least land a wild brownie.

Not surprisingly, the conversation over the post-fishing dinner at the nearby Flotterstone Inn did not focus too much on who achieved what!  Thank you to the restaurant for their hospitality.

So we move on to the next outing at the Lake of Menteith on Wednesday 5th August with the hope that there is a general improvement in the overall fishing conditions.
