Founded in 1829 during the reign of King George IV, the Ellem Fishing Club is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest existing and continuous trout angling club in the world
The Ellem Fishing Club founding members were Edinburgh and Berwickshire gentlemen who formed the Club in the Ellem Fishing Tavern at Ellemford (nowadays known as the residential Ellem Old Inn).
Ellemford is a hamlet situated near the junction of the rivers Dye and Whiteadder, seven miles north of the county town of Duns in the foothills of the Lammermuir Hills.
The Club originally opened a museum at Paxton House in 2007. In 2015 a new museum showcasing the rich history of the Club with some fascinating exhibits and memorabilia, was opened by Andrew Douglas-Home OBE.
This fascinating social history of the oldest existing trout fishing club in the world will provide both anglers and non-anglers alike with a truly memorable flavour of life in Berwickshire since 1829.
