The very tough fishing conditions experienced across many parts of the country of late did not deter 13 anglers who participated in the Club’s annual outing to the Lake of Menteith Fisheries on Wednesday 6th August.

The weather conditions on the day were good with a moderate westerly wind and some sunny intervals from time to time. Most anglers parked up their boats at Sandy Bay for lunch and a debrief on the morning’s fishing. Some anglers had netted one or two fish, but all conceded that the fishing had been tough. After a welcome shot of sloe gin kindly provided by Ricky Amos, we all set off hoping for some better activity in the afternoon session.

Things did pick up! 34 trout were netted on the day. The winner of the heaviest four fish basket was Davie Birse (13lbs 4oz), followed by George Wood (12lbs 10oz) and Allan Cook (10lbs 9oz). John Dow had the heaviest fish at 3lbs 8oz. Top rods for the day were George Wood and Allan Cook with 6 fish each. A good day all things considered!

After the weigh-in, the group travelled a short distance to the Lion and Unicorn in Thornhill to enjoy an after dinner meal and an ‘assessment’ of each other’s achievements (or otherwise) for the day!

Thank you to the staff at the Lion and Unicorn for their hospitality.
