The River Competition, traditionally held annually on the third Thursday in May was slipped by a day this year to allow ITV ‘Border Life’ to film the Club.

The programme, produced by Fiona Armstrong (formerly ITV News Reader), took place initially at Ellemford where several Club members were interviewed and filmed fishing the River. This was followed by a visit and interviews at the Museum in Paxton House.

The film which will be between 8-10 minutes long, will be broadcast in the next few weeks on ITV ‘Border Life’, and typically goes out on Friday evenings. Details when known, will be sent out to members.

Ten members entered the River Competition this year, which was held on Friday 22 May 2026. The conditions were favourable although the fishing was extremely difficult with only seven fish caught. The winner was Dave Birse with a nice 1lb 13oz trout. The Trotter Medal went to Robbie Bell who managed 3 fish and then Ricky Amos with 3 fish, claimed the Dundas Medal. Interesting that Ricky fished the Whiteadder Reservoir (boat) this year!  No excuse in the future for those who find the River too difficult to fish!
