Welcome to "The oldest existing and continuous trout angling club in the world" (Guinness Book of Records, 1994). As a celebration of more than 175 years since it's formation in 1829, the Ellem Fishing Club has created a most interesting and informative exhibition in the wonderful setting of Paxton House, in the Scottish Borders. This Exhibition, sited within the Courtyard near to the Tea Room, is free to view. The Berwickshire Club was formed at Ellemford on the River Whiteadder in 1829 hence the Club's name.
The Club members still compete annually for the Club Gold Medal, struck in 1830, and other medals.
This medal was won in 1834 by one man catching "eight dozen and seven trout (103) weighing 19lb 7oz." (3oz or 85 grams per trout!) To read about our Club's fascinating history why not buy our Club's book at a cost of only £6 from Paxton House or email the Club at books@ellemfishingclub.co.uk
